Software Engineer 1 – Data Domain at Choice Hotels

This role is not eligible for sponsorship and is a four days onsite hybrid position at our N. Scottsdale office.

• Grow as a software engineer by learning existing tools, resources, and processes.
• Develop productivity skills through source control, editors, build pipeline, and testing best practices.
• Tackle well‑defined tasks, commit, and deliver under the guidance of senior developers as part of a Scrum team during each sprint.
• Build and maintain data pipelines, ETL jobs for inbound and outbound data flow on a Big Data platform.
• Expand knowledge of one software component and branch into other areas as you grow.
• Take commitments seriously and deliver as part of a collaborative team.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 1–2 years of experience or equivalent internship/training in Python, Java, and data‑related projects.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Knowledge of Big Data concepts, Spark, and Kafka.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EC2, and Redshift.
• Experience with source control (Subversion or Git).
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle: design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, release, and operational support.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, Service‑Oriented Architecture, and object‑oriented programming.
• Knowledge of software development best practices (coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing).
• Exceptional verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
• Proficient with the MS Office suite, including Visio.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to proactively address challenges.
• Desire and ability to learn quickly.
• Demonstrated competencies in innovation, nimble learning, and driving results.
