Position: Software Engineer 1 - Data Domain

Overview

This role is not eligible for sponsorship and is four days onsite hybrid at our N. Scottsdale office.

Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, is looking for a Software Engineer 1 in the Data Domain. The Data Domain team collects data from all internal and external sources and builds data warehouse solutions. You will own ingestion and view creation for the analytics team, data scientists, and business users, building data pipelines and ETL jobs for inbound and outbound data flow.

Responsibilities
  • Grow as a software engineer by learning existing tools, resources, and processes.
  • Develop productivity skills by learning source control, editors, build pipeline, and testing best practices.
  • Tackle well-defined tasks, commit and deliver with guidance of senior developers as part of a Scrum team in each sprint.
  • Develop knowledge of a single component of our software architecture and branch into other areas as you grow.

Experience, Skills & Competencies
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one to two years of experience with Python, Java, and data‑related projects or equivalent internship/training.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, familiarity with Big Data concepts, Spark, and Kafka.
  • Knowledge of AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EC2, and Redshift.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to proactively address challenges.
  • Source control experience with Subversion and/or Git.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle: design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, release, operational support.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, SOA and OOP.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, coding standards, code reviews, build processes and testing.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and demeanor.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Visio.
  • Desire and ability to learn quickly.

Team

This is an individual contributor role that reports to the Software Engineering Manager. You will have four peer teammates and collaborate with cross‑functional departments regularly.
