Job Description

The bus driver will operate a school-owned 40-passenger bus, traveling with students and staff members to off‑campus events and returning them to campus afterward. The driver reports directly to the Athletic Director. Job duties include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, traveling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and sitting for extended periods.

This position requires effective communication via phone and email; ensuring all duties are completed accurately, delivered with high quality and in a timely manner; flexibility, forward thinking, managing deadlines; relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with creativity and latitude. Mentoring is provided for all new faculty and staff.

Essential Job Functions
  • Travel with students and staff to and from off‑campus events in a safe manner
  • Perform physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, traveling, and sitting for extended periods
  • Obey all traffic laws and enforce bus regulations and procedures
  • Administer emergency first aid when needed
  • Maintain the bus clean and properly fueled
  • Run assigned schedule efficiently according to route/trip
  • Perform a pre and post‑trip inspection of all assigned vehicles
  • Maintain highest driving safety in varied weather and road conditions
  • Understand and practice current defensive driving techniques
  • Report incidents/accidents immediately to proper authorities per Department policy and procedure
  • Keep personal certifications up to date
  • Perform other flexible duties related to general job function
  • Perform all duties safely and prudently as directed
  • Follow diocesan policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook
  • Perform any other job‑related tasks deemed necessary or assigned by the principal

  • Maintain courteous and professional rapport with students and staff
  • Use good judgment in daily encounters; use correct verbal and written language

  • Maintain appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook
Physical Demands

The role requires standing, sitting, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, and focus adjustment. The employee must stand for periods of time outside in heat and cold. The environment noise level is moderate. The position requires frequent evening and weekend hours.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with procedures developed by the Diocese of Phoenix and Notre Dame Preparatory under the direction of the Chaplain, Principal, Athletic Director, and Director of Finance.

Terms of Employment

Twelve‑month flexible schedule. The Executive Committee under the guidance of the Diocese of Phoenix establishes base salaries and stipends. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities is provided prior to the start of a new school year.

Minimum Qualification
  • At least 25 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Arizona CDL Class B with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brakes endorsement
  • CPR training within 60 days of hire (or ability to obtain)
  • Successful driving record for the past five years
  • Physically able to perform job duties safely
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Willingness to support Catholic teachings and philosophy
  • Complete Safe Environment Training prior to start date
  • Sign Diocesan Code of Conduct and possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
