Senior Accounting Manager

Overview

The Senior Accounting Manager supports core revenue and accounting operations by overseeing accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and accurate revenue recognition across multiple systems. Working closely with the Associate Director of Finance, this role contributes to monthly close activities through payroll and benefits entries, reconciliations, investment and endowment accounting, and preparation of journal entries and schedules. The position ensures compliance through timely tax filings, assists with IRS Form 990 preparation, and supports the annual audit and consolidated financial statement process.

It also manages key accounting functions for Meadowbrook Farm and oversees PHS’s point‑of‑sale and merchant service platforms.

• Manage the accounts receivable, invoicing, and collections processes for Controller team revenue.
• Oversee invoicing and monitor payments and collections for designated PHS revenue streams, including Public Gardens & Landscapes and Flower Show revenue.
• Record revenue receipts from various sources—including Ticketure and Stripe—into the PHS general ledger system.
• Record monthly payroll and benefits expenses in the general ledger; analyze payroll reports from ADP and collaborate with the Human Resources team to reconcile discrepancies.
• Record monthly investment and endowment activity and maintain the investment unitization schedule.
• Prepare recurring journal entries and maintain supporting schedules.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations between the general ledger and assigned balance sheet and revenue accounts.
• For PHS’s Meadowbrook Farm, record intercompany transactions, process monthly reimbursements, record cash receipts, and complete bank and account reconciliations.
• Prepare and file applicable sales tax and vendor withholding tax returns.
• Assist in preparation of the annual IRS form 990 tax returns for PHS and Meadowbrook Farm.
• Support the management of the annual audit process and preparation of the consolidated financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Oversee PHS’s point‑of‑sale system (Clover) and manage various merchant service accounts.
• Assume key responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Manager during their absence to maintain essential operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 8+ years of relevant experience.
• No specific licenses or certifications required.
• Driver’s license not applicable.

• Detail‑oriented and strong written and verbal communication.
• Motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Knowledge of general ledger accounting systems.
• Desire to seek and implement policy and financial improvements.
• Self‑starter who can work independently to resolve problems.
• Strong customer focus for internal departments and external constituents.

This is largely a sedentary role that requires looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time; however, some physical demands are required.

PHS’s standard office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at a designated workspace. Some teams and positions work alternate hours because of the nature of their role king norms documents will identify alternative hours, if applicable.

Hours preparing for the show and the duration of the show may not follow regular work schedule. Employees may be required to stand for long periods, do extensive walking, and lift up to 25 pounds.
