This role is responsible for supporting the monthly and quarterly close process, preparing financial reporting and analysis, maintaining strong internal controls, and partnering with business leaders across the organization. The Staff Accountant will contribute to financial planning and forecasting activities, support audits and regulatory reporting, and identify opportunities to improve processes through automation and technology. This position offers broad exposure across accounting, finance, and business operations while working in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the monthly and quarterly financial close process, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Execute and maintain Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls while identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls.
Financial Reporting & Analysis (20%)
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify trends, and provide recommendations.
- Work with large datasets to support business reporting and decision-making.
Business Partnership (15%)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues and support business initiatives.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Present financial results and insights to leadership as needed.
Audit & Regulatory Support (15%)
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and various financial data requests.
Process Improvement & Special Projects (20%)
- Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automation.
- Leverage new technologies to streamline workflows and strengthen financial reporting.
- Participate in special projects related to accounting, regulatory changes, and process enhancements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Support day-to-day accounting activities associated with the monthly close.
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with GAAP and SOX requirements.
- Partner with colleagues across the organization to solve problems and improve processes.
- Work independently while exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.
- Mentor and support less experienced team members when appropriate.
- Occasionally work overtime, weekends, or travel on a limited basis during peak reporting periods.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 2-4 years of accounting or finance experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and SOX compliance.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, work papers, and accounting documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes through technology and automation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
