Job Overview - Assistant Controller
Compensation: $120,000-$140,000/year +bonus
Location: Montgomery County, PA
Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)
Atlantic Group is hiring an Assistant Controller in Montgomery County, PA for our client. This leadership role oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and process improvement initiatives while managing a team of accounting professionals and partnering with senior leadership to support the organization's continued growth. The ideal candidate has strong accounting leadership experience, a collaborative management style, and a proven ability to improve financial processes and drive operational excellence.
Responsibilitiesas the Assistant Controller:
- Property & Corporate Accounting: Oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of multifamily properties, investment entities, and corporate operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Financial Reporting: Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting work papers while ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Treasury & Fund Support: Assist with treasury management, budgeting, property and fund distributions, payroll accounting, cost allocations, and quarterly property valuation support.
- Audit & Compliance: Serve as a key contact for annual property audits, prepare and review audited financial statements, coordinate with external auditors, and maintain strong internal controls.
- Leadership & Process Improvement: Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while identifying opportunities to improve processes, implement new technologies, and strengthen financial operations.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, Human Resources, and executive leadership to support strategic initiatives, financial planning, and business operations.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA designation is preferred.
- Experience: 6+ years of progressive accounting experience is required, including public accounting or a combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
- Industry Knowledge: Real estate accounting experience is required. Experience with multifamily property accounting is highly preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office is required. Experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting software is preferred. - Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, mentor accounting staff, improve financial processes, collaborate across departments, maintain exceptional attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced real estate environment.
