Essential Functions, Primary Responsibilities and Objectives:

The Assistant Grant Writer is responsible for assisting the Grants Office in the preparation and submission of grant proposals to local, state, federal and private funders. The Assistant Grant Writer is responsible for monitoring and tracking submitted, pending and on-going proposals, identifying and conducting research for future opportunities, and participates in administration, recordkeeping and reporting for grant-funded projects.

This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week, 50 weeks of the year.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities that align with the College's mission, initiatives, and programs.
  • Review grant application guidelines to identify compatible funding opportunities to benefit the College and inform supervisor of research activity.
  • Write grants for federal and state government agencies, public/private foundations, and other funding sources.
  • Prepares proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
  • Assists with maintaining and updating tracking documents for proposals, reports, renewals, and prospects.
  • Maintain complete records of past, current and future grant proposals.
  • Communicate with various College departments as well as support departments to gather necessary and accurate correspondence and follow-up reports to funders, as necessary.
  • Ensure appropriate electronic and hard copy record keeping of grants, research, and related documents.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Organized work style and ability to work autonomously, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to review, interpret and prepare written responses to a variety of requests from potential funders.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Education:

    • Associates Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred in communications, English, professional writing or a similar major.

    Experience:

    • Experience with grant writing preferred, but not required.
    • Prior experience with data entry and databases, spreadsheets and word processing software required.
    • Project management experience preferred.
    • Experience working in an office setting preferred
