Position: Clerk 3

This is complex clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions. An employee in this class performs complex clerical work which requires the application of independent judgment. Work involves the responsibility for all aspects of a clerical process in an assigned geographic subdivision or functional area such as invoicing or auditing, or the performance of complicated office activities which are control oriented.

Work includes complicated clerical work processes or activities which are characterized by unpredictable and random inputs, making choices between different procedures to be followed, and determining the appropriateness of the information that is presented for further processing. Work is performed with considerable independence and little review, however, changes in operational standards, procedures, and work policies are discussed in detail with the supervisor prior to implementation.

The Clerk 3 classification includes Edit Specialist and Tax Claim duties as listed below.

Edit Specialist

This is a lead quality control position for data accuracy before the values are sent out to the Taxpayers and Taxing Authorities for each billing cycle.

Tax Claim Specialist

This position is responsible for the daily tax money collected. Prepares the daily balancing of all money received. Responsible for tax sale disbursement of funds. Has knowledge of the Real Estate Tax Sale Law. Excellent customer service is required for high contact interaction with the public. Prepares deeds from the Upset and Judicial sales to be recorded. File Court documents including but not limited to bankruptcy, lean adjustments and removal of tax leans.

Responds to inquiries related to delinquent taxes. This position has more in-depth dealings with sale disbursement of funds and legal documentation necessary to fulfill tax claim law requirements.

Qualifications
  • This position must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in the Assessment Office or the equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Knowledge of Assessment and Microsoft applications (Word and Excel)
  • Full Understanding of Both Written and Verbal Instructions
  • Excellent Verbal Communication Skills
  • Fluent Reading
  • Ability to Hear
  • 20/20 Vision with Corrective Eyewear
  • Simple Computational Skills
  • Must Recognize Specific Times (Arrival, Departure, Breaks, Lunch)
  • Mobility Within the Building
  • 75%-100% Sitting
  • Less than 25% Standing
  • Bening at Knees and Waist
