Graduate Assistant (GA) - Sports Information Assistant

The Graduate Assistant – Sports Information Assistant supports the Athletics Department with the promotion, communication, and documentation of intercollegiate athletic programs. This position provides hands-on experience in athletic communications, media relations, and digital content creation while the graduate assistant pursues advanced academic studies. The GA works closely with athletics staff, coaches, and external media to enhance the visibility and branding of the department and its teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sports Information & Media Support:
    Assist with game-day operations including statistics, live scoring, game notes, press box management, and postgame reporting. Support media relations efforts and respond to routine information requests.
  • Content Creation & Communication:
    Draft, edit, and publish content such as game previews/recaps, feature stories, press releases, and announcements for the athletics website and digital platforms. Assist with social media content and scheduling.
  • Website & Digital Media Support:
    Maintain and update team pages, schedules, rosters, and records on the athletics website. Assist with photo and video management and basic graphic design needs.
  • Administrative & Departmental Support:
    Assist with record-keeping, historical archives, statistics databases, and coordination of athletic awards, honors, and nominations. Provide general administrative support as needed.
  • Student-Athlete & Staff

    Collaboration:

    Work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, and athletics staff to gather information, verify statistics, and ensure accurate representation of programs and individuals.
  • Other Duties:
    Complete additional tasks as assigned by the department, faculty, or supervisor that support professional development and departmental objectives.
  • Peak Times:
    Works during high-impact periods, including but not limited to in-season competition schedules, postseason play, special events, the week prior to the start of the semester, the first two weeks of the semester, and other designated peak athletics periods.
Qualifications
  • Enrollment in or acceptance to a related graduate program in Higher Education, Organizational Leadership & Management, Professional Studies, or MBA
  • Strong academic standing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with website CMS platforms, social media tools, and basic graphic design software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Interest in intercollegiate athletics and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
