Darlington Arts Center (DAC) was founded in 1978 on the unique vision of including all four arts disciplines–music, visual arts, dance, and drama– in one space with an emphasis on multi‑disciplinary programming. DAC has served the Delaware and Chester counties and Delaware State communities for over 40 years by fostering programs that provide possibilities and opportunities through the exploration of multi‑disciplinary arts.

Darlington Arts Center (DAC) seeks skilled artists who have at least one year of teaching experience in Visual Art Teaching Artist–Sewing for group classes and private instruction at the Center, located at 977 Shavertown Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060, from September 2025 to August 2026.

Our Academic School Year is from September 2025 to June 2026, and our summer program is from June 2026 to August 2026.

We are looking to fulfill the position by March 3, 2026. We are prioritizing candidates who have some costume design/sewing/ fashion design background and afternoon- evening availability on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Responsibilities
  • Showing integrity in teaching methods and pedagogy
  • Helping parents understand the artistic process as well as the finished work that goes home
  • Inspiring student excitement and commitment to study
  • Treating students and parents with respect and kindness
  • Teach visual arts for all ages
  • Has experience with sewing, costume design and/or fashion design
  • Promote Darlington’s mission and programs to students and parents
  • Keep an accurate teacher log book, which will serve as an invoice for services
  • Communicate with the office in a clear, consistent and timely manner, including:
    • Promptly notifying the Program Manager of any schedule changes
    • Responding to phone and email messages within 48 hours
  • Recommend exceptional students and those in need for scholarships
  • Submit PA child abuse clearance, criminal records check and FBI clearance (must be within 5 years of 12/31/2023)
  • Distribute communications to families as provided by the administrative office
Performance Evaluation
  • Student and Parent satisfaction (collected verbally and on bi-annual surveys)
  • Student Retention (across all DAC activities)
  • Student demonstration of improved ability and knowledge (as evidenced in their completed work)
  • Observation (classes may be observed by the Executive Director or her designee)
  • Staff Feedback (regarding regular communication and accurate teacher log)
Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred)
  • Has experience in teaching adults
  • Has experience teaching group classes
  • Able to work from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on weekdays
Compensation

This position is a 1099 contracted employee. Darlington hours of operation are from Monday and Wednesdays 10am- 9pm, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 3pm to 9pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm during the Academic Year. Viable candidates will set their preferred hours within the above hours of operation. Starting hourly rate is $35.00, however is negotiable based on experience and expertise.
