Position Overview
As a Dentist for the Department of Corrections (DOC), you join a team dedicated to improving health and well‑being within the State Correctional Institution (SCI) s role provides a steady routine and opportunities to grow through continuing education while working alongside knowledgeable staff who value teamwork and high quality service.
Description of WorkThis role focuses on providing consistent and compassionate dental care to the inmate population at SCI Huntingdon. You will work closely with auxiliary staff while maintaining a reliable weekday schedule.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver basic dental exams and treatments for individuals in the facility.
- Evaluate oral health needs and determine appropriate treatment options.
- Coordinate with auxiliary staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Document dental findings and update patient records accurately.
- Guide patients on healthy oral care practices.
- Develop and implement appropriate dental treatment plans.
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Evening or on‑call duties are not required.
- Eligible for full retirement benefits as early as age 55.
- DEA license renewal and liability insurance are covered by the Commonwealth.
- Up to 50 hours of additional paid leave for job‑related continuing medical education.
- Salary is competitive with potential yearly incentive payments in addition to the base salary.
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
- Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
- Applicants who are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree will be considered to have met the educational requirements.
- Must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
