Summary: Supervise and assist students in a variety of instructional and non-instructional school activities. Provide clerical and classroom support services to help maintain an effective learning environment. Paraprofessionals are not responsible for the design, direction, or evaluation of the teaching-learning process. Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on assignment and student needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise and assist students in all school-related areas and activities, including classrooms, resource rooms, cafeterias, study halls, playgrounds, assemblies, field trips, and during transportation (on and off buses).
- Provide reinforcement instructional support in visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive skill areas.
- Perform delegated instructional services, such as assisting students with independent study projects, make-up work, or small group activities.
- Support the conduct of co-curricular and extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Secure, operate, and assist students in the use of instructional and assistive teaching devices, including individual technology, district-provided technology, and communication devices.
- Provide custodial care services, which may include:
- Ambulatory support
- Lifting and physical assistance
- Feeding
- Toileting
- Utilize safe physical management techniques when necessary to support student behavior and maintain a safe environment.
- Perform routine clerical duties, including typing, duplicating, collating, distributing, and filing instructional materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Applicants must meet one of the following additional qualifications:
- Completion of at least two years of postsecondary study
- Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher
- Meeting a rigorous standard of quality through a state or local assessment
Experience: One year of experience working directly with children is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and carry out written instructions.
- Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
- Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from staff, students, or parents in one-on-one or small group settings.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including fractions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Proficiency in the use of educational technology and instructional tools.
