The Science Department at Chatham University invites applications for a full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology for the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate will have a strong background in anatomy, human biology, physiology, or a closely related field and will support undergraduate and graduate instruction in biology and health science-related coursework.

This position is intended to provide temporary instructional coverage for courses previously distributed across faculty lines and to support continuity in key biology, anatomy, and professional preparation courses during the 2026–2027 academic year.

The appointee will teach a full-time instructional load consistent with Chatham University’s expectations for Visiting Assistant Faculty. The standard teaching load is 24 credits, or the equivalent instructional load, per academic year, with credit-hour equivalencies applied as appropriate for laboratory-intensive courses. Responsibilities may include contributing to courses serving undergraduate biology majors, students in pre-health pathways, and graduate or professional programs. Because some instructional needs include graduate-level coursework for health professional students, a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Human anatomy or anatomy-related coursework.
• Human biology, physiology, or related undergraduate biology courses.
• Graduate-level anatomy or foundational science coursework for health professional programs.
• Biology laboratory instruction, including multi-section laboratory courses as needed.
• Course preparation, delivery, assessment, and student support.
• Coordination with biology faculty and health science programs to maintain instructional continuity.
• Holding regular office hours and supporting student success.
• Participation in departmental activities related to teaching and curriculum coordination.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Science, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in human anatomy, physiology, or human biological sciences.
• Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate biology or anatomy-related courses.
• Commitment to effective, inclusive teaching.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience teaching human anatomy and/or physiology.
• Experience teaching graduate or professional health science students.
• Experience teaching laboratory-based biology courses.
• Experience working with pre-health students.
• Familiarity with cadaver-based, model-based, or systems-based anatomy instruction.
• Experience in a liberal arts, small college, or interdisciplinary science department environment.
