The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of matters in the field. The role is a preparatory position toward Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The FE aids the Superintendent in front‑line field management, manages layout, supervises trade workers and subcontractors, prepares lift drawings, and ensures safety and quality control.
A safety‑sensitive position that requires a considerable amount of work, responsibility, persistence, problem‑solving ability, and a positive attitude.
- A 4‑year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture, Construction Management or a related field.
- 1 year of experience and/or a combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel templates, Project Sight, Primavera, and Autodesk Suite.
- Past internships in the construction industry.
- Experience with project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.
- Skill in checking concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy before placement.
- Ability to perform production trend analysis and report on schedule and cost control.
- Assistance with quality control, site safety initiatives, and coordination of trade partners.
- Coordination of material deliveries and inspection of delivered materials.
- Assistance to foremen and trade partners on plan interpretation.
- Oversight of trade partners and direction of work forces as needed.
- Participation in jobsite safety meetings and safety audits.
- Collaboration with the VDC team on scope, execution plan, and deliverables related to field operations.
Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and type.
- Operate a computer and other office machinery continuously.
- Communicate regularly with employees and external stakeholders.
- Read written communications, view mail, read blueprints, and take/verify field measurements.
- Climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.
- Maintain balance to prevent falling and to walk, stand, or crouch.
- Stoop and bend downward with the spine at the waist.
- Operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
- Occasional exposure to high and low temperatures.
- Frequent exposure to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
