Position Overview
Utility Plant Operator 2 at the Department of Human Services South Mountain Restoration Center. Responsible for operating and maintaining steam generating boilers, ensuring daily steam production, and supporting safe operation of plant equipment.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain steam generating boilers to meet demand.
- Monitor pumps, fans, compressors, and related equipment for proper function.
- Test water softness and chemical levels; adjust chemicals within required limits.
- Record plant operating conditions and maintain usage and production logs.
- Perform repairs, install equipment, and complete preventive maintenance assignments.
- Operate emergency generator systems and drive state vehicles to collect needed parts or supplies.
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Relief Operator swing shift: 1st (7am‑3pm), 2nd (3pm‑11pm), 3rd (11pm‑7am);
Sunday–Saturday with rotating days off; no unpaid lunch break. - Overtime as needed.
- No telework.
- Salary determined after qualifications assessment.
- One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 or equivalent.
- Or one year of semi‑skilled work experience in operation, maintenance, or repair of utility plant systems.
- Or equivalent combination of experience and training, including at least six months of semi‑skilled work experience.
- Active Class C motor vehicle license.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer requires medical examination.
- Position falls under Older Adult Protective Services Act requiring criminal background verification.
Qualified veterans are preferred per Pennsylvania law. Employment preference for veterans is available.
