Description
Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves working directly with clients to maintain high‑quality work and includes developing expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.
Responsibilities- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Small world, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
- Handle functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up.
- Analyze scope of work and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering requirements, develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, and manage work‑permit, easement, and ROW applications.
- Work in both office and field settings, collecting field data during local or regional customer‑site visits.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in electric utility design engineering or an electric utility consulting company.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may substitute for a degree.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in Pennsylvania.
- Proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable‑pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault‑current calculations.
- Reliable transportation for occasional local or regional travel.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Estimating costs, developing BOMs, and calculating CIAC.
- Use of design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
- Work‑management and estimating software.
- CAD or Micro Station electrical distribution design.
- Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) experience for design projects.
- High‑level organization and project management skills.
- Ability to train entry‑level resources and create process documents.
