Job OverviewThe Data and Devices Business Unit is looking for a Sr. R&D Product Development Engineer (PDE) to design and develop socket, high speed connector and cable assembly solutions. In this role you will be responsible for the design and documentation of new products, from market definition through production and release. You will conceive original ideas for new products/solutions and develop them into practical and economical models.
You will determine specifications, perform engineering analysis, make preliminary sketches and designs, and coordinate support operations (such as fabrication engineering samples and testing). Interaction with customers, vendors, marketing and sales personnel, and other engineering areas during the pre‑production stages of new products is also an important part of this role.
- Responsible for connector product development/extension/ existing product maintenance.
- Work closely with customer/sales/PM in getting the right and clear VOC (voice of customer), make engineering evaluation/proposal to the VOC.
- Follow up with TE LeanPD process (new development process), conduct the mandatory and optional engineering practices (PRD, QFD, DFMEA, etc.).
- Provide concept / design and feasibility study, design review meeting, well documentation, drawing / spec / necessary engineering documents release and archive.
- Lead in resolving the issues down to the closure and manage design & engineering changes.
- Technical support to customer, conduct necessary test, engineering analysis. Interacts with customers, vendors, marketing and sales personnel, and other engineering areas for working alignment.
- Hands‑on try‑out in customer side or lab for getting feasible technical proposal, problem/issues solving, new solutions. Demonstrate TE solution with solid samples and prototypes or professional engineering reports with consumer application.
- Judging manufacturing deviations and make decisions on deviation acceptance.
- Work with FAI approvals, Process Capability Study, 8D report and 5 WHY analysis.
- Periodically engineering review and report.
- Other tasks assigned by supervisor.
- B.S. degree or above, majored in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Working experience of fine pitch connectors design. Socket development experience is plus item.
- Extensive knowledge about molding, stamping, plating and auto assembly processes associated, silicone or conductive polymer related experience is plus item.
- Abundant knowledge in material usage, industry standard, and international application.
- Proficient to use Pro/E software with solid working experience, FEA simulation skills will be a plus.
- Tolerance analysis skill of worst cast analysis, RSS analysis and statistical data analysis
- Willing to communicate proactively with good communication skills in English (oral and written) in order to correctly understand customer requirement and conveying engineering information. Chinese mandarin is plus++ item.
- Good presentation skills with usage of PowerPoint presentations.
- Willing to work flexible, closely work with China members (PDE, MPDE, QA…).
- Effective problem solving skills, willingness/ability to deal with multiple product and assigned tasks.
- Ability to self‑plan work clearly with good priorities and execute accordingly
