Overview

Talen Energy is seeking a Relay Test Technician for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) to conduct complex surveillance tests, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and inspections of plant protection relays, alarms, and control circuitry systems.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct surveillance tests, routine and emergency maintenance, and calibrations on nuclear plant protection relays and control systems.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑job briefs, notify supervisors of abnormal conditions, and ensure high‑quality work.
  • Install, test, calibrate, maintain, diagnose, and remediate equipment for protection, data acquisition, monitoring, and control of generating‑station electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate relay‑test activities, develop test plans, and evaluate new installations against design intent and standards.
  • Assist in design reviews and interface with Engineering, System Operations, Radiation Protection, Project Management, switchyard/utility personnel, and contractors.
  • Advise, instruct, and assist other employees in maintenance, calibration, repair, and safety practices, complying with NERC, OSHA, NRC, and radiological regulations.
  • Prepare and complete required reports, forms, work orders, test records, maintenance histories, Condition Reports, and other documentation.
  • Follow the SSES Maintenance & Test Equipment (MTE) program and all applicable permit & tag, safety rule, environmental, NERC, OSHA, and NRC regulations.
  • Practice safe work methods, use required personal protective equipment, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Participate in the development of relay‑test procedures, work instructions, and training programs; assist in lessons‑learned and root‑cause discussions.
  • Assist operations, engineering, and station management in interpreting relay indications and troubleshooting relay versus equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform relay‑test duties during Emergency Plan events/drills as an in‑plant team member.
  • Maintain computer skills for relay‑test data entry and retrieval; develop and download programmable instrumentation software.
  • Maintain calibration records and use Instruction Owners Manuals and technical literature to support work.
  • Operate utility vehicles, ATVs, and maintain fiber‑optic cable and equipment used on relays.
  • Attend required meetings, maintain unescorted site access, and manage controlled prints and IOMs.
  • Work from heights on scaffolds or man‑lifts following safety procedures; maintain station voltage regulators.
  • Read and interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, and make sketches and diagrams as needed.
  • Keep repair shop, tools, and equipment in good working order and maintain housekeeping and safety in the work area.
  • Perform any additional relay‑test related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a two‑year Electronic Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with electrical experience) from an accredited program.
  • Valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Successful completion of the Ramsay Corporation Electrical Test Technician Screening Exam.
  • Successful completion of the Engineering Aide exam or equivalent internal qualification.
  • Successful completion of the Electrical Test Technician STEP4 Exam or at least five (5) years of Electrical Test/Protective Relay Test experience.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted site access for the SSES Relay Test Technician.
