This role focuses on inspecting construction activities to ensure that materials and work follow required specifications. You will support successful project completion through careful observation, documentation, and communication. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Inspection: Inspect routine phases of Highway Occupancy Permit construction work such as grades, elevations, stake outs, drainage features, and material placement
  • Material Testing: Test and inspect materials used in highway construction to verify compliance with standards
  • Project Documentation: Maintain sketches, calculations, plan changes, diaries, and reports according to required procedures
  • Quality Verification: Check the placement of concrete, bituminous materials, drainage elements, and other construction materials
  • Team Coordination: Work with project staff, agencies, and the public to support smooth project administration

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work overtime as necessary per work assignment
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
