Overview
Originate mortgage applications within low‑to‑moderate income neighborhoods and to low‑to‑moderate income borrowers. Participate in Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) related activities and functions within M&T community bank regions. Must adhere to the requirements of federal registration under the SAFE Act.
Primary Responsibilities- Work independently to cultivate new mortgage business.
- Market, service and promote the bank's mortgage products.
- Travel to prospective customers' homes or business locations, and follow up via travel or telephone.
- Market bank‑wide proprietary CRA products (e.g., Get Started) to the Retail Bank Network as well as real estate firms, housing agencies, etc.
- Market agency‑related products (FHA, VA, etc.) to low‑to‑moderate income borrowers and in low‑to‑moderate income neighborhoods.
- Interview applicants to collect and analyze information regarding their income, assets, debts, credit data and needs, and determine whether the loan will be an acceptable risk.
- Obtain and analyze pertinent financial and credit data; assess applicant's credit worthiness.
- Issue pre‑qualification statements and determine appropriate mortgage products.
- Negotiate terms and conditions of loans with mortgagors and, as authorized, bind the bank in connection therewith.
- Ensure lending compliance with all origination procedures, bank policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Advise management on effective compliance strategies and suggest modifications to corporate operating policies.
- Interact with housing agencies and governmental entities focused on CRA initiatives.
- Stay informed of industry regulations and governmental requirements as they relate to CRA housing needs.
- Represent the bank in community and related functions to identify, develop, and promote additional business.
- Present seminars to general public and real estate agents to promote business and community outreach.
- Facilitate the bank’s need to meet CRA responsibilities with federal regulators and community members.
- Forge relationships with local housing agencies and CRA outreach programs.
- Travel extensively with limited supervision and maintain extensive external contacts (potential customers, Realtors, etc.) primarily on sales calls outside the office.
- Maintain internal contacts with other bank personnel; interact with individuals and teams internally and within the community.
- Establish and maintain federal registration requirements outlined in the SAFE Act.
Associate's degree and 2 years of sales experience, or if no degree, a combined minimum of 4 years higher education and/or relevant work experience, including at least 2 years of sales experience.
CompensationThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $43.34 hourly (USD).
