Descriptionof Work
This position supports safe and enjoyable use of state park facilities, as well as helps visitors understand and follow park rules. It involves public interaction, safety tasks, and practical field duties that keep park areas well maintained and secure. As a Park Resource Ranger, you will perform the following duties:
- Public Safety Patrol:
Patrol park grounds and facilities to check for hazards and visitor compliance. - Visitor Assistance:
Provide information to visitors and help answer questions about park history, schedules, features, and rules. - Emergency Response:
Give first aid and assist with search, rescue, and fire suppression situations. - Facility Inspection:
Inspect buildings and structures to identify safety issues and report or address hazards. - Presentation Support:
Prepare and deliver informational talks to school groups and community organizations.
- This is a seasonal, full-time position (37.5 hours per week) with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately in March 2027.
- Work schedule, including shifts, will vary due to the seasonal nature of this position.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Active motor vehicle license.
- Valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- Pennsylvania law provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
- TRS available for hearing and speech disabilities or other individuals.
