The Medical Assistant assists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients, as well as perform diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections and vitals. The role includes patient flow management, documentation in IT systems, maintaining supplies, ensuring HIPAA compliance and acting as a liaison to physicians and patients.

- Acts as liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Maintains and orders supplies for their area as needed; interacts with co‑workers, visitors and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Encourages patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
- Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
- Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding IT system use and documentation requirements.
- Assists physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections.
- Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
- Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth office operations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with medical office procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire (BLS through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations).
- Experience in physician office or other healthcare setting preferred.
- For NJ only:
Graduate of an accredited post‑secondary medical assisting program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in IM and subcutaneous injections. - For internal Einstein applicants only:
Medical Assistant certification is not required if a current Einstein employee in a current Medical Assistant role with hire date prior to 7/1/2024, when transferring within Einstein entities.
