Job Summary

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of radio frequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. MRI technologists perform magnetic resonance imaging, acquire and analyze data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. They independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of magnetic resonance imaging procedures, prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.

Job Duties
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Prepares and/or administers, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post-processing of data if applicable.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assists the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.
Position Details

Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and (ARRT)-MR, or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or primary ARRT-MR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and (ARRT)-MR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and ARMRIT.

Education:

Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology (Required), Bachelor's Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred).

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years-Related work experience (Required).

  • Basic Life Support Certification – Default Issuing Body
  • Certified MRI Technologist – American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist RT(R)(MR) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Radiography (R) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
