Job Summary
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of radio frequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. MRI technologists perform magnetic resonance imaging and acquire and analyze data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. They independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of magnetic resonance imaging procedures, including preparation, administration and documentation related to medications in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.
Responsibilities- Ensure the correct order is obtained, the patient is properly identified and prepared for the exam, and clinical history is corroborated and documented while respecting confidentiality.
- Utilize appropriate imaging protocols and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety, applying principles of ALARA.
- Prepare and/or administer medications as applicable through new or existing vascular access sites as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Evaluate images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality, verify archival storage and transfer of data, and post‑process data when applicable.
- Educate and monitor students and other healthcare providers.
- Apply MRI safety principles to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
- Assist the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
- Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Select appropriate pulse sequences, taking into account established protocols and other influencing factors.
- Participate in modality quality or process improvement activities.
- Demonstrate commitment to department and organizational priorities and fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
- Accountable for satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) and ARRT‑MR
- Or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
- Or primary ARRT‑MR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
- ARMMRIT Education (required)
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program – Radiologic Technology (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree – Related Field of Study (Preferred)
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience (Required)
- Basic Life Support Certification – Default Issuing Body
- Certified MRI Technologist – American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist RT(R)(MR) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Radiography (R) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
