Job Summary
Geisinger is proud to offer a part‑time Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) position with competitive pay rates and up to $5.50/hr shift differentials for evening, nights and weekend shifts.
Location & ShiftGeisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV);
Days shift (United States).
Scheduled weekly hours: 20.
Hours:
7:00am–7:30pm and 11:00am–7:30pm, every other weekend and holiday.
- Assess patients’ respiratory care needs based on data.
- Plan, organize, perform, and evaluate treatment modalities to meet those needs.
- Ensure optimal patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction.
- Consistently perform and document thorough patient assessments.
- Establish appropriate care plans.
- Communicate with other members of the patient care team.
- Perform and document routine therapeutic modalities including aerosolized medications, secretion management techniques, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy, and routine care of artificial airways.
- Initiate and manage conventional and high‐frequency mechanical ventilators according to established protocol.
- Provide age‑specific patient and family education related to disease management.
- Assist with intra‑hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
- Handle acute airway management in emergent situations.
- Set up and manage non‑invasive monitoring (e.g., ETCO monitors, pulse oximeters).
- Assist with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory‑related DME supplies and follow insurance guidelines.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and safety standards.
- Adhere to institutional and national standards of care.
- Collect arterial blood gas samples and process them through point‑of‑care analyzers.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA, release of information).
- Assume Shift Coordinator (charge person) duties when designated after one year of employment.
- Assist with fiber optic bronchoscopy procedures, placement of invasive monitoring lines, and obtaining hemodynamic measurements.
- Assist with intra‑hospital transport of age‑specific patient groups.
- Serve as a preceptor for orientees and students during their clinical rotation.
- Work primarily in a clinical environment, complying with all organizational policies and procedures.
- Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (required).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) within 6 months.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) within 6 months.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP).
- Resuscitation Performance and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required).
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy protocols, mechanical ventilation, and airway management.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently as a shift coordinator after one year.
