OverviewWe are seeking a Compute and Storage Architect / SME to join our team supporting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, MD. The NRC Global Infrastructure and Development Acquisition (GLINDA) provides a wide variety of IT support services to NRC Headquarters and regional offices.
We're looking for a highly skilled Architect/SME to provide strategic and technical leadership in the architecture, design, planning, deployment, and management of enterprise-class compute, storage, and hybrid cloud environments. The SME will be authoritative on VMware Cloud Foundation, vSAN‑ready nodes, Commvault Metallic backups, and Microsoft Azure solutions, supporting mission‑critical operations with emphasis on security, compliance, cost efficiencies, and scalability.
Role is hands‑on architecture with strong governance, automation, and implementation expertise. The successful candidate will mentor the compute and storage team and act as a trusted advisor to customers.

Responsibilities- Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements, evaluate current infrastructure, and recommend alternate technologies and solutions.
- Lead discussions on future planning and technology road‑mapping, guiding enterprise adoption of emerging compute and storage technologies while maintaining backward and forward compatibility.
- Design scalable and maintainable virtualization, storage, and backup solutions and implement VMware Cloud Foundation environments, ensuring alignment with performance and resilience goals.
- Oversee deployment and optimization of vSAN‑ready nodes, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and optimized storage operations.
- Design and manage data backup and recovery strategies utilizing Commvault Metallic for on‑prem, hybrid, and cloud workloads.
- Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and government security frameworks through hardening, patch management, and auditing processes.
- Provide expertise on Azure Virtual Desktop design, deployment, and ongoing optimization for enterprise users.
- Act as a subject matter expert, staying current with compute and storage updates and best practices, and providing architecture guidance on upcoming projects.
- Stay ahead of tech trends in the Power Platform space, proposing continuous improvements.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in compute and storage technologies relevant to enterprise environments.
- Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
- Successfully pass a drug screening.
- Recognized expertise in the professional community, qualified by the Government for an actual task order.
- Familiarity with container technologies (Kubernetes, Tanzu) and cloud‑native application platforms.
- Strong knowledge of zero‑trust security models and cloud governance frameworks.
- Experience working in Federal Civilian secure environments.
- Required to work in the office at least once per month, within 100 miles of NRC HQ inville, MD.
- VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX).
- Microsoft Certified:
Azure Solutions Architect. - Commvault Certified Professional.

Target salary range: $173,000 – $205,000, determined by education, skills, experience, and contract parameters.
