Responsibilities

As a Labor Law Investigator, you will be tasked with screening complaints, collecting physical evidence and eyewitness accounts, conducting detailed interviews, and inspecting businesses or projects for potential violations. You will coordinate with your supervisor on the status of each investigation, prepare case narratives, and maintain timely, detailed work notes of each case's progress. Your decisions, in collaboration with your supervisor, will determine the course of each investigation, including when to hold administrative conferences, visit an establishment, or recommend taking a case to court.

Teamwork and effective communication are essential.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring Pennsylvania workers' rights are protected and providing information on state employment laws to employees and employers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, home headquartered

  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch

  • Home headquartered with a securely configured high-speed internet connection from an approved location inside Pennsylvania

  • Salary:

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility / Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a related field; or

  • One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor's degree; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess and maintain federally compliant identification (U.S. Passport, REAL , or Military ). Proof required at conditional offer

  • Live in or be willing to move to the Pittsburgh District Office geographic region by date of hire (counties listed in original posting)

  • Demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor & Industry; professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills; initiative and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to perform essential job functions

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in investigations or construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution

  • An associate's degree or greater in a related field

  • Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws

  • Experience testifying at administrative or court hearings
