THE POSITION

Are you interested in playing a vital role in safeguarding daily operations at State Correctional Institution (SCI) Somerset? This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your extensive background to plan, administer, and oversee comprehensive fire and safety programs at the facility. DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

As a Facility Safety Manager, you will be overseeing the total facility safety program, including accident and fire prevention and security. Your work involves annually reviewing and inspecting fire and safety equipment, developing and implementing facility safety policies, procedures, and training, and implementing accident and fire avoidance protocols and security measures to ensure the preservation of facility property and the safety of inmates, employees, and visitors.

You will also be responsible for compiling time‑sensitive reports, investigating accidents, and facilitating the monthly safety meetings.

  • Responding to inmate grievances
  • Overseeing the use and distribution of chemicals within the facility
  • Implementing environmental safety programs
  • Acting as a liaison with the Department of Environment Protection (DEP) on inspections and incidents
  • Overseeing asbestos abatement and lead paint removal

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
  • One year of professional experience in an organized accident prevention, fire prevention, environmental safety, or security program, plus a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
