Role Overview
The Utility Plant Operator 2 at the South Mountain Restoration Center ensures dependable steam production and steady operations to support facility functions. The role requires operating and maintaining boilers, monitoring system performance, performing routine maintenance, and providing equipment support.
Responsibilities- Operate and regulate steam boilers to meet facility demands.
- Record operating conditions, monitor pumps, and maintain daily logs.
- Test water quality and add chemicals to maintain proper control levels.
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Relief Operator – Swing shift options: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM.
- Work Sunday–Saturday with rotating days off; no unpaid lunch break. Schedule may change based on operational needs.
- Overtime as operationally necessary.
- No telework option available.
- One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1, or
- One year of semi‑skilled work in operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems, or
- Six months of comparable experience and training.
- Active Class C motor vehicle license.
- PA residency requirement must be met.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer may require a medical examination.
- Position falls under the Older Adult Protective Services Act, requiring satisfactory criminal history clearance.
