Do you excel at balancing hands‑on leadership with strategic planning? If so, Allegheny Surface Technology (AST) is looking for an experienced Production Manager to join our growing team.

As our Production Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring production operations run safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This position serves as the connection between production scheduling and the shop floor, overseeing daily production flow, managing capacity, improving processes, and driving initiatives that support customer commitments and business goals.

This role is ideal for a manufacturing professional who enjoys being actively involved in daily operations while also using data, planning, and problem‑solving skills to improve long‑term performance. The Production Manager will help strengthen operational excellence by creating efficient processes, improving workflow, and ensuring teams have the resources needed to succeed.

This role will focus on developing and coaching supervisors, building strong relationships with employees, and creating an environment where team members understand expectations, feel supported, and are empowered to achieve success. What

You’ll Do
  • Lead daily production operations to maximize throughput while maintaining the highest standards for safety, quality, and on‑time delivery.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and support to Production Supervisors to ensure alignment on priorities, expectations, and operational goals.
  • Translate production schedules into actionable daily plans, monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and resolve production challenges.
  • Manage short‑term production priorities while supporting mid‑ and long‑term capacity planning, labor forecasting, equipment utilization, and resource allocation.
  • Analyze key production metrics including throughput, on‑time delivery, labor utilization, rework, and other performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives, visual management, standardization, and process improvements to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and increase capacity.
  • Partner with Scheduling, Quality, Maintenance, Customer Service, Shipping & Receiving, Purchasing, and other departments to ensure effective communication and production flow.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, quality standards, and company safety policies.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, cross‑training, and employee development initiatives to build a skilled and capable workforce.
  • Oversee Shipping & Receiving operations to ensure accurate material flow, proper documentation, and timely shipments.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, equipment upgrades, automation, and other initiatives that support long‑term operational success.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of manufacturing or production leadership experience.
  • Experience leading supervisors and production teams in a fast‑paced, high‑mix manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, capacity planning, workflow optimization, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, PDCA, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, production software, Microsoft Office, and production data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
