Position: Licensed Practical Nurse - Southwestern Veterans' Center (1st, 2nd, & 3rd Shift)

The Licensed Practical Nurse role at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs offers a chance to make a real difference every day. At the Southwestern Veterans Center, you will support our veterans and spouses by providing dependable and compassionate care. Responsibilities
  • Health Assessment Support: Assist the RN by checking resident health status and ensuring accurate and confidential documentation
  • Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments, verify pharmacy orders, and maintain accurate records
  • Resident Observation: Observe residents for changes or concerns and report findings while documenting daily care activities
  • Care Coordination: Work with the RN to help plan and adjust resident care and participate in nursing committees when needed
  • Safety and Hygiene: Ensure residents are clean, safe, and well groomed while supporting infection control practices
  • Specialized Care: Provide focused care for residents in specialty units such as Alzheimer care
Work Hours & Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week.
  • Positions are available on the following shifts:
    • 1st shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM) with a 30 minute lunch
    • 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) with a 30 minute lunch
    • 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM) with a 30 minute lunch
  • Rotating days and weekends. Working every other weekend is required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914.00 (before taxes).
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

Qualifications
  • Necessary Special Requirements:
    • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
    • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • Other Requirements:
    • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
    • If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • A conditional offer of employment may require satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
