About the PositionThe Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is actively hiring Seasonal Lifeguards to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors at Codorus State Park. In this vital role, lifeguards will patrol the swimming area, observe water activities, and direct guests to maintain a safe and orderly environment. The position requires monitoring water for hazards, communicating safety protocols, and guiding park visitors.
Responsibilities- Patrol, observe, direct, and monitor activities at the swimming pool to ensure a safe environment for all visitors.
- Remain vigilant at your designated post, scanning the area to prevent accidents and be ready to assist in emergencies.
- Identify swimmers in distress, promptly report rescues or incidents, and call for additional assistance as necessary.
- Administer first aid, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, infants, and children.
- Enforce the Bureau of State Parks’ swimming regulations and provide guidance on park policies.
- Inspect safety equipment such as buoys, floats, ropes, and first aid supplies to ensure proper working order.
- Assess the swimming area for unsafe conditions and guarantee it is safe for public use.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on swimming conditions, activities, and incidents, including daily logs and water quality forms.
- Participate in orientation and training sessions to review policies, learn lifesaving techniques, and renew swimming and first aid certifications.
- Take water samples, monitor meters, and document findings; report need for chemical adjustments or equipment malfunctions.
- Perform basic maintenance and custodial tasks such as litter pickup to maintain a clean and safe swimming area.
- Seasonal Full‑time employment without benefits.
- Season runs May through September.
- Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- Weeks, weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed for up to 37.5 hours per week.

- Valid Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross, YMCA, United States Lifesaving Association, or other authority recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
- Valid certifications in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the law, a conditional offer of employment requires submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
