Food Service Worker 1

As a Food Service Worker 1 with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, you play an important part in daily meal operations. This position focuses on preparing meals, delivering food service, and maintaining sanitary dining and kitchen areas within a veteran home. The role supports daily meal operations and ensures residents receive safe and accurate food service. As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Preparation:
Prepare and portion food items, beverages, and snacks while following established instructions - Tray Assembly:
Set up carts, read diet codes, and assemble trays to match individual dietary needs - Meal Delivery:
Transport and deliver resident trays and maintain accuracy of special orders - Sanitation Tasks:
Clean dishes, equipment, furniture, and food service areas to maintain safe conditions - Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety rules, use protective equipment, and report hazards or injuries - Record Keeping:
Document inventory use, temperatures, and meal counts as required
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hour
- Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Willingness to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
- Willingness to work full-time from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM with rotating days and weekends
- Previous food service worker experience
- Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
- Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
- Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
