Overview
THE POSITION Become a Chemist 2 with the Department of Environmental Protection and take part in work that protects public health. Description of WorkThis position supports laboratory testing that protects the environment and public health. You will work with many types of samples and instruments to ensure accurate and reliable results. As a Chemist 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Sample Handling:
Organize samples, follow custody rules, and document all steps accurately - Instrument Operation:
Operate chromatography and LCMSMS systems and review data for accuracy - Maintenance Tasks:
Perform routine maintenance and report any issues with analytical equipment - Safety Compliance:
Follow all lab safety rules, complete checks, and report unsafe conditions - Quality Control:
Input data, use certified standards, and evaluate QC results to solve problems - Method Development:
Support new method creation by reviewing literature and helping update procedures
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor’s degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
- A graduate degree in chemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
- This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license
- You must possess and maintain a REAL passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
