The Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Safe Drinking Water is seeking a Professional Geologist Manager. This role focuses on protecting public health by ensuring safe drinking water throughout Pennsylvania.
Description of WorkThis managerial position provides technical hydrogeologic oversight for Public Water System (PWS) construction, modification, and operations. The Professional Geologist Manager supervises Licensed Professional Geologists, Geoscientists, and Geoscientist Trainees within the Safe Drinking Water Technical Services Section.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical hydrogeologic oversight for PWS construction, modification, and operational activities
- Supervise L.P.G.s, Geoscientists, and Geoscientist Trainees within the Technical Services Section
- Plan, develop, and coordinate permitting and authorization functions
- Conduct well-source siting evaluations
- Perform geographic site assessments and geologic setting determinations
- Complete hydrogeologic reviews for proposed or existing water sources
- Implement Surface Water Identification Protocol (SWIP) sampling and source determinations
- Support Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) initiatives
- Determine well-source safe‑yield for multiple types of PWS
- Two years as a Licensed Professional Geologist, or
- Two years of professional geology experience with an active license and a bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board
- Active Pennsylvania non‑commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
- PA residency requirement is currently waived.
