THE POSITION

This position oversees the safety, fire prevention, and security functions that protect residents, staff, and visitors at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home. It plays a central role in coordinating training, reviewing incidents, guiding emergency planning, and ensuring regulatory compliance. As an Institutional Fire Safety Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Safety Program Leadership:
Develop and run a facility-wide safety program that aligns with state requirements and departmental policies - Security Oversight:
Manage security officers and direct daily security activities, including patrols, monitoring, and emergency response actions - Incident Review:
Investigate workplace incidents, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrences - Emergency Preparedness:
Coordinate disaster and fire drills, test emergency plans, and train staff in proper response procedures - Regulatory Compliance:
Inspect facilities, maintain safety-related equipment, and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal standards - Staff Training Support:
Provide safety education, conduct required training sessions, and guide employees in safe work practices

Work Schedule and Additional Information:- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of institution safety work, including one year of fire prevention and fire fighting work, and completion of two years of college; or
- One year of institutional fire and safety work, and a bachelor's degree; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
