Responsibilities- Repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment under the guidance of the Shop Manager.
- Perform mechanical repairs, maintain diesel and gasoline equipment, conduct inspections, and complete preventive maintenance.
- Address vehicle deficiencies and maintain accurate repair records; ensure shop safety.
- Prioritize and address projects requiring immediate attention; perform repairs as directed.
- Assess vehicle condition through inspections and diagnostic tests; identify worn or damaged parts.
- Ensure equipment availability by following preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades, and controlling corrosion.
- Assist with fabrication of new equipment or builds as instructed.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies (removal, repair, adjustment, overhauling, assembling/disassembling, replacement of major assemblies/sub-assemblies/parts or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, A/C, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics); machine shop operations, adjustments, and alignments.
- Verify vehicle performance through test drives and adjustments to controls and systems.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state vehicle standards by testing engines, safety systems, and combustion control.
- Conduct field visits for emergencies or breakdowns.
- Maintain shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and arranging repairs.
- Keep inventory stocked by monitoring supplies, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Stay updated on job knowledge via educational opportunities and reviewing technical/regulatory publications.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment; perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required; technical training in mechanics preferred. - Experience:
valid driver's license with at least 5 years of clean driving experience required;
Class B CDL preferred but not mandatory; experience repairing heavy trucks (gas and diesel) required; welding experience required; proficiency with small hand tools and equipment (chainsaws, trimmers, leaf blowers) essential; ability to travel as needed; experience working on sweepers, catch basin trucks, and tractors required; ability to work overtime as needed; must have own set of tools. - Additional:
