Job Overview

Position:
Sr Mobile Diesel Technician (DOT Management Level) at Cox Automotive / Cox Fleet. This role involves performing licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and advanced diagnostics for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers in a mobile/field environment.

Compensation:
Hourly base rate $32.26 – $48.41, with potential commission and incentive program. Travel: 100% of the time. Shift: Variable. Remote option available for candidates living in specified city, state, or region.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust and repair equipment using test instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges) and road test vehicles.
  • Manage parts inventory, equipment, and periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate with clients to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Prioritize and manage concurrent tasks, making effective judgments on work‑related activities and time allocation.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders using company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application; upload pictures and notes.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule while maintaining high productivity.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and minimum 5 years’ experience in a related field (alternative combinations: a relevant degree/certification plus 3 years’ experience or 7 years’ experience).
  • Must possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Must successfully complete a DOT-regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or present a valid DOT medical card with more than four months validity).
  • Candidate must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid state driver’s license, and be able to obtain/maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or a DOT physical if less than four months.
