Sr Mobile Diesel Technician – Job Overview
This role is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician serves as a consultant on the customer’s behalf and is considered the lead on jobsites.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines, Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks, making effective judgments about work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures and parts details on Repair Orders ("RO") using the company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule.
- Maintain productivity and meet or approach standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as required.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field (additional education or certifications acceptable; 5 years of experience also acceptable).
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Candidate must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; less than 4 months requires a DOT physical.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license required; must obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
