Carpenter – College Campus
Thompson Facilities Services provides integrated facilities management solutions that support educational institutions, corporate campuses, and community environments nationwide. We are currently seeking a skilled Carpenter to support facility maintenance and construction operations on a college campus.
Position SummaryThe Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work involving the construction, repair, installation, and maintenance of campus buildings, furniture, fixtures, and related structures. This role supports the overall appearance, functionality, and safety of campus facilities while delivering high-quality workmanship and excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities- Perform general carpentry repairs and maintenance for classrooms, offices, residence halls, dining facilities, and common areas
- Install, repair, and replace doors, locks, windows, cabinetry, flooring, drywall, ceiling tiles, and trim
- Construct and repair furniture, shelving, partitions, and other wooden structures
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to complete assigned projects
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials using hand and power tools
- Perform minor painting, patching, and finishing work as needed
- Inspect facilities and identify structural or maintenance concerns requiring repair
- Maintain inventory of tools, materials, and supplies necessary for assigned work
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and campus standards
- Respond to emergency repair requests and support campus events or special projects as needed
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians, facilities staff, and contractors on campus improvement projects
- High school diploma or GED required
- Trade school certification or apprenticeship in carpentry preferred
- 3+ years of commercial, institutional, or facilities carpentry experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools, and safety practices
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment safely
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance systems and general construction practices
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Valid driver’s license may be required based on campus operations
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and move throughout campus facilities for extended periods
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, and other carpentry equipment
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms safely
