BUILDING TRADE/CONSTRUCTION OCCUPATION TRADE TEACHER – CORRECTION EDUCATION (CARPENTRY)
State Correctional Institution (SCI), Phoenix
As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher – Correction Education (Carpentry), you will help inmates develop foundational carpentry and construction trade skills that support their post‑release future. You will create a classroom atmosphere that encourages steady progress and celebrates achievement.
Responsibilities- Adapt curriculum and lesson materials based on student assessments and learning needs.
- Provide instruction in carpentry and related construction trades, assigning and evaluating classwork.
- Develop and administer quizzes, tests, and final evaluations to track student progress.
- Maintain student education, attendance, payroll, and inventory records.
- Monitor all tools and materials, reporting missing items and ensuring safe, orderly use.
- Maintain a productive learning environment by setting clear rules and applying corrective actions when needed.
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours:
7:45 AM – 3:45 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- No telework option.
- Starting annual salary: $72,215 (before taxes) for new employees with the Commonwealth.
- High school graduation equivalent and two years wage‑earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in carpentry, or if no approved apprenticeship, high school graduation equivalent and three years wage‑earning experience.
- Possession or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II, or Vocational Intern Certificate, or Emergency Certificate for carpentry.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- PA residency requirement met.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
