DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on skilled operation of heavy equipment to maintain and improve infrastructure throughout the Pinchot Forest District. It also supports wildfire suppression and protection of natural features across state forest lands. As an Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Operation:
    Operate heavy vehicles to build and maintain forest roads, parking areas, and trails
  • Manual Labor:
    Perform physical tasks when not using equipment to support maintenance projects
  • Safety Demonstration:
    Show proper and safe operation of assigned machinery to other workers
  • Task Analysis:
    Determine efficient methods and tools needed to complete assigned field work
  • Wildfire Support:
    Assist with prevention, control, and suppression activities across forest lands
  • Environmental Protection:
    Follow required plans and practices to safeguard natural features during earthwork

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately 9 March 2026 until 13 November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Special Requirements
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Conditions of Employment
  • This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL).
