The Town of Whitby is a community in transformation located in the heart of Durham Region in the eastern Greater Toronto Area. Whitby is the second-largest municipality in the region and one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada. Located on Lake Ontario and about an hour east of Toronto, the population is growing and the town is updating its plans to support sustainable growth and improved communities.
WhatYou Will Get To Do
The successful candidate will demonstrate the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) in daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials. You will help deliver services that make a difference in the community by building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally.
You are safety-conscious and able to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including wearing all mandatory safety equipment supplied by the Town. You are alert, capable of maintaining control over traffic flow at a school crossing or intersection, and you have well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills to interact with students, parents/caregivers, and staff. You are punctual, collaborative, and able to work independently and under minimal supervision while remaining at the crossing for the entire assigned shifts (morning, lunch and afternoon).
WhatYou Bring To Our Team
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
- a recent, valid and clean Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector;
- good judgment and decision-making skills to calmly respond to emergency situations;
- physically capable of standing and/or walking for up to four (4) hours per day, thirty (30) minutes at a time, in varying weather conditions.
Monday to Friday, with shifts ranging between 2 and 8 per day. Hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., with an average of 2.5 hours per day. Please note, shift times/durations vary depending on the crossing location and school start/end times.
Salary$21.30 per hour
