Residential Program Worker - Part Time; Local Government

Description of Work

This position supports individuals as they return to the community or work to avoid hospitalization by helping them build confidence and independent living skills. Workers in this capacity will work on shifts to assure 24‑hour availability in a small facility in which a limited number of seriously mentally ill (SMI) consumers reside, each in their own apartment. As a Part‑time Residential Program Worker, you will perform the following duties:

• Home Safety Training:
  Teach safety procedures inside the consumer's residence
• Observation Sharing:
  Share observations with the supervisor and team members as appropriate
• Progress Documentation:
  Record behaviors and progress in a clear and timely manner
• Transportation Support:
  Transport consumers to appointments when needed using a county vehicle
• Direct Assistance:
  Work closely with consumers in their home environment to support daily living

• Part‑time employment, approximately 15‑20 hours per week.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with 30‑minute lunch.
• Employee may have occasional overnight travel or out of county travel for meetings or training. Often, irregular hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends may be required.
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:
  In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as a Residential Program Trainee; or
  • One year of experience in a Human Services Agency working with the mentally disabled, the elderly, or children and youth; or
  • Two years of college which includes courses appropriate to the Human Services field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Other Requirements:
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Legal Requirements:
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Conditional offer requires a drug screening.
  • Position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law; includes satisfactory criminal history reports (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, FBI Fingerprint clearance).
