Wayne County Children and Youth is seeking a County Caseworker 1 to support children, families, and the community in Honesdale, PA. The role provides meaningful, professional public‑service work with opportunities to positively impact social, emotional, and physical functioning.
Responsibilities- Conduct client interviews to gather social histories and assess service needs.
- Determine and verify service eligibility and provide program information.
- Assist clients and families in developing functional improvement plans.
- Maintain a caseload, document activities, and gather information from clients and collateral contacts.
- Coordinate supportive and protective services for children and families, including at‑risk children.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and participate in required training and development.
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 1‑hour lunch.
- Employees may have irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, overnight travel, or out‑of‑county travel on a monthly basis.
- Telework is not an option for this position.
- Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college‑level coursework (including 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences); OR
- A bachelor’s degree with or supplemented by 12 credits in the above disciplines; OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 credits in the relevant disciplines and one year of experience performing paraprofessional case‑management functions.
- Applicants will be considered to meet the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree or credit requirement.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and, if receiving an offer, complete a drug screening.
- Position is governed by the Child Protective Services Law, requiring submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports (including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance).
