Position: County Caseworker 1 (Local Government) - Mifflin County C&Y

As a County Caseworker 1 with Mifflin County Children & Youth, you will take part in meaningful work that helps protect children and strengthen families. This position offers a positive environment where teamwork and compassion guide daily decisions. You will help families access the support they need to overcome challenges. This role focuses on guiding families through difficult situations and connecting them with helpful services. You will support child safety and family stability while working closely with parents, children, and service providers.

  • Case Assessments: Conduct visits and reviews to understand family needs and ensure child safety
  • Service Coordination: Connect families with providers who can offer support and treatment
  • Investigation Work: Carry out CPS investigations to address concerns and protect children
  • Family Support: Help families build goals that strengthen stability and reduce the need for placement
  • Progress Monitoring: Track family progress and adjust plans to support reunification when possible
  • Permanency Planning: Assist in creating long term plans such as adoption or SPLC when reunification is not possible
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment; 72.50 hours bi-weekly.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
    • Caseworkers will share on-call duties.
    • Travel and Overtime as needed.
  • Telework:

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;
    or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
