DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This entry level position works closely with caseworkers and other social service aides to provide services in the home to families with children after a caseworker has visited and determined which services are to be provided. It focuses on one-on-one assistance and communication with families to help them work toward positive goals and outcomes in all areas of family life. As a County Social Services Aide 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Household Guidance:
    Teach budgeting, proper hygiene, nutrition, cooking and food shopping skills, and home maintenance
  • Parenting

    Education:

    Provide in-home instruction on effective parenting skills and daily routines
  • Clerical Tasks:
    Complete a written report of each appointment with consumers; manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and help with other duties as assigned
  • Care

    Collaboration:

    Join meetings to help develop care plans, set goals, and coordinate child and family services
  • Team Support:
    Pay close attention to details under a constantly changing work environment and communicate information to professional staff
  • Additional Assistance:
    Work may involve transporting consumers to supervised visitation and necessary appointments, providing childcare when necessary, and helping clients complete applications and forms
Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Possible after-hours appointments for supervised visitation and transportation.
  • Possible travel requiring overnight stays.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:

    In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Requirements

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
