About the Position
The Equipment Operator A position with the Department of Human Services supports the safe and efficient operation of Wernersville State Hospital. The role involves operating a variety of vehicles and equipment to maintain daily services, ensure safe transportation, and support campus operations.
Job Responsibilities- Operate buses, trucks, vans, tractors, and other equipment to meet hospital transportation needs.
- Maintain grounds using mowers and related equipment.
- Transport consumers, employees, supplies, food, and equipment on and off the hospital grounds.
- Perform safety checks, clean vehicles, and complete minor maintenance tasks to keep equipment in good condition.
- Operate plows, blowers, and de‑icing equipment to maintain safe travel during winter.
- Perform general labor tasks such as loading materials, cleaning outdoor areas, and assisting with facility upkeep.
- Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.
- Regular hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with a 30‑minute lunch. Weekend shifts required every third or fourth week, schedule may change based on operational needs.
- Overtime as needed and subject to emergency call‑in.
- No telework for this position.
- Starting annual salary: $36,108.00 (new employees with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania).
- Minimum six months experience operating and maintaining large vans, buses, or single‑chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Must obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within the probationary period.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- Position falls under the Older Adult Protective Services Act and requires submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police and FBI clearance.
- Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS): 711 for hearing and speech disabilities or other individuals.
