English Teacher - Seaford High School -  School Year

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will develop students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing; foster communication skills; and develop an appreciation of literature. The teacher will motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend, and critically assess reading materials, and promote skills in English reading, grammar, and syntax.

• Develop and administer the English curriculum consistent with school district goals.
• Create a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and translate them into learning experiences.
• Teach English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary, proper word usage, and creative writing.
• Standardize critical analysis through group discussions on diverse reading materials.
• Collaborate on materials for literary publications and contests.
• Conduct ongoing assessments and modify instruction for individual needs, including students with special needs.
• Stay familiar with district and Delaware State standardized tests to maximize student achievement.
• Acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
• Maintain accurate records, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance.
• Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with parents.
• Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies.
• Coordinate with fellow staff, participate in faculty meetings and committees.
• Select and requisition appropriate instructional materials and maintain inventory records.

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and district administrators.

• Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
• Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, spelling, literature, and other content areas taught.
• Knowledge of data systems, analysis, and action planning.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Effective communication with students and parents.
• Self‑evaluation for professional growth.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Delaware State certification as an English Education Teacher.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.

• Delaware State certification (Delaware Code Title 14 Section 1500).
• High school diploma or GED (required for all employees of the Seaford School District).
