Homeless Services and Attendance Support Liaison
Primary Duties:
- Monitors/maintains mandated compliance documentation for McKinney-Vento.
- Understands and has knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Act
- Compiles a variety of forms, reports, documentation, and records from various sources for McKinney-Vento.
- Assists in the accurate identification and monitoring of students participating in McKinney-Vento.
- Assists with the End of Year reports and Best Interest Meetings.
- Confer with guardians/parents, periodically, to involve families in the educational plans for their children
- Provide and maintain files of Homeless students
- Ensure homeless students have full and equal opportunity to succeed in the district's schools, and monitor homeless students' progress throughout the school year.
- Communicate to all school district residents what services and resources are available for people in a homeless situation.
- Maintain data collection system, which includes maintaining detailed records of all interactions with homeless students/families, including tracking all changes to a student's/family living situation and/or transportation needs.
- Ensure that parents/guardian and unaccompanied youth are fully informed of all transportation services, including transportation to and from the school or origin, and are assisted in accessing transportation services.
- Access the needs of the school district's homeless students/families through phone calls, school and home visits.
- Order and distribute homeless posters, informational brochures, folders, and other homeless materials to all school district buildings, and assess these materials usage.
- Order clothing for homeless students and maintain spreadsheet of clothing needs.
- Coordinates and supports District McKinney-Vento Liaison in delivering services to Homeless students.
- Receives and places calls to parents/guardians of homeless students to give resource information and troubleshoot any transportation issues.
- Enters homeless students' status and services in (Infinite Campus)
- Keeps files of McKinney-Vento eligibility questionnaires from all schools
- Assist District McKinney-Vento Liaison to distribute supplies that benefit, children, youth and families.
- Investigates problems reported by the District McKinney-Vento Liaison that impact immediate student enrollment
- Collaborates with District McKinney-Vento Liaison to maintain the homeless database to document direct services to students and parents and gathers necessary data for assessment and monitoring purposes
- Ensures that student attendance conforms to the school's standards and school district policies
- Works with community organizations which can have a positive impact on students attending school
- Maintains a caseload of students to routinely check on attendance and academic progress
- Serves as a support for those students who are transitioning from alternative programs
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Student Services and the District McKinney-Vento Liaison
- Ability to make sound judgments and decisions and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Must demonstrate flexibility, common sense, and good judgment
- Must have the ability to keep abreast of information pertinent to the job.
- Must have basic knowledge of computers
- Must be a team player and get along well with others with the ability to take constructive criticism
